CLIFFORD – COMPANION

Breed: Standardbred
Colour: Bright bay
Gender: Gelding
Height: 16.1hh
Date of Birth: 2014
Medical Conditions: Scars on back legs due to injury sustained
Foster Donation: £100

Story: Clifford came into the charity’s care at the beginning of July 2024.  He was discovered dumped in an open field with nasty wounds to his legs, believed to be due to him becoming entangled in some barbed wire fence.  He spent a few days at Rossdales and a further 3 months on box rest receiving regular bandage changes.  No one ever came forward to claim him.  We believe he has been ridden/driven in the past as he was shod when found but we have not verified this due to his occasional lameness and very wonky movement.  For this reason he is advertised as a companion only.

Personality: Clifford is a very loving boy, he adores all the attention he can get.  He is quite spooky at new things, Clifford doesn’t like moving vehicles and can get scared when things pop up on him. Good to handle and catch, loves his food.

Experience: Clifford is good for most things such as rugging, grooming, picking out feet, farrier, vet, leg washing.  He has been known to sometimes rush out of his stable and likes his stable door wide open when going out, we don’t know if this is down to a bad experience prior to his arrival. He can get quite  attached to his chosen friend and will get upset and anxious when they are separated.

Type of home: He needs an experienced home with a fosterer who is confident and calm with nervous big horses, someone who will work with him to bring out the best he has to offer. He wins the hearts of everyone who meets him and we’re sure he won’t take long to find a foster family to call his own.
