ARCHER – RIDEABLE

Breed: Trotter
Gender: Gelding
Colour: Dark Bay
Date of Birth: 13 June 2019
Height: 15.3hh (fine build)
Foster Fee: £250

Archer was born at the Sanctuary to Schnapps just one month after she came into our care with 10 other trotters as part of an RSPCA rescue. He has always been a sensitive soul and took a long time to realise that humans weren’t THAT scary. He spent the first few years of his life growing up within the herd before finding a foster home. Unfortunately, as he grew, and following an incident whilst out hacking (not his fault) he became a bit too much for his fosterer and he went on to another fosterer to continue his education. He has been training hard throughout the winter and is ready to find a new foster home to continue his education.

He can be viewed and will be rehomed from his current fosterers residence in Ware, Hertfordshire. She has this to say about him:

“Archer is looking for predominantly a hacking home, this is where his heart lies, he’s the perfect hacking companion being forward but with excellent brakes and brave. He’s still young so he needs some reassurance when out and about but he’s not fizzy or spooky. His schooling has only started in earnest a few months ago where we started without him being able to do a true canter, but he’s now got a good walk and trot with the canter coming along on both reins. He’s confident over poles in all three paces. With consistent work he would do a fairly nice dressage test. Archer hasn’t taken naturally to jumping and whilst he can and will do small cross poles, he can lose his confidence if he makes a small mistake and so he’s not going to make a brilliant showjumper, although with work I’m sure he would pop a small course or the odd log out on a hack. Archer will need someone experienced due to his age and whilst his strong personality makes him an interesting chap, he’s not your easy going type and without boundaries he could easily take over. He’s fabulous to catch and is always up for a cuddle, clipping and loading are a work in progress and clicker training has helped with both of these things. Lives in or out and turn out with geldings and or mares. He’s very social and so loves lots of turn out with his buddies. He’s going to make someone a wonderful low level allrounder with a bit of time and patience.”

Archer is NOT a novice ride, he is very finely built and is not a weight carrying horse.

FRED

Breed: Dartmoor Pony
Gender: Gelding
Colour: Bay
Height: 12hh
D.O.B May 2011

This cute chap was relinquished into the care of EHPPS from The South Essex Wildlife Hospital based in Orsett.  They originally took him and another pony in as yearlings, finding them a suitable foster home together where they spent the next 8 years of their lives as companions..  unfortunately, Fred began bullying his field companion and the decision was made to return him.  The wildlife hospital no longer had any suitable grazing available and asked if EHPPS were in a position to take him on.  Fred considers himself to be a bit of a ladies man and would be best suited to a gelding only home or a yard where mares and geldings are grazed in separate herds.  He enjoys a daily marmite sandwich which seems to keep his sweet itch at bay.

Thankfully, after a very successful year of fostering, we had space at the Sanctuary and little Fred joined us in October 2020.

He has a super sweet personality, despite his frequent face pulling, and found himself a Temporary Winter Foster home for the colder months.  he returned from Winter Foster in April 2021 and from there he commenced his ridden training.

Fred has been lunged and long reined with no issues at all, he has taken to work life like a duck to water.  Our weekend groom, heather Woodcock, has ridden Fred at a walk in the round pen and he was hoof perfect.  He was responsive under saddle and forward going.  This little lad has a lot of potential to go far in the right hands.

In the stable he thinks of himself as an 18hh shire and will try to intimidate you by pulling faces.  He is absolutely fine once you have hold of him and hasn’t acted on his face pulling threats.  he can be a bit devious to be caught but if you take a bribe with you he soon comes round to the idea of being head collared, sweets always win him over.
