DEXTER – COMPANION / RIDDEN PROSPECT

Breed: Welsh Section C
Colour: Chestnut
Gender: Gelding
Height: 13hh
Date of Birth: 2015
Medical Conditions: None Known – requires veterinary sedation for his hooves to be trimmed.
Foster Donation: £170

Story: This handsome boy came into the care of Essex Horse & Pony Protection Society at the end of October 2022. He had been purchased by a lady with the intention of eventually being a children’s riding pony, but he turned out to be a bit too sensitive and she could no longer offer the care or training he required.

Personality: Dexter can be a lovely boy, it’s just his nerves sometimes get the better of him. He is not malicious at all. He is very friendly and playful with other equines and gets on well within the herd.

Experience: Dexter is nervous of everything. He can be hard to catch but once you have him he leads well. He currently requires sedation by the vets to have his hooves trimmed but we feel with time and regular, consistent handling he will no longer require sedation. He is very wary of the vet but if you take your time with him, he will come around. Worming is done in his feed.

Type of home: He needs an experienced home who is willing to work with him to help him understand that life isn’t scary and that people can be trusted. Someone that will give him the daily one to one handling he so desperately craves.
