POPCORN – RIDEABLE

Breed: Cob
Colour: Skewbald
Gender: Gelding
Height: 12.2hh
Date of Birth: 19 January 2014
Medical Conditions: Allergy to hay – requires haylage only, has had mallanders/sallanders in the past.
Foster Donation: £250

Story: Popcorn was relinquished into the Charity’s care at the end of January 2024 along with another pony called Rusty. Their owner was no longer able to look after them due to loss of grazing. The pair were both still entire on arrival and underwent castration a couple of weeks later. Popcorn has severe allergies to Hay and can only be fed haylage.

Personality: Popcorn is very sweet and loving, thoroughly enjoying attention and fuss. He enjoys playing with his field mates and can be a bit cheeky on occasion.

Experience: He is good to lead and settles well in the stable. He can live in or out. He is good to groom and have his feet picked out. He can be a little fidgety with the farrier but is not malicious and we believe this stems from his occasional flare ups of mallanders/sallanders. He is being brought back into ridden work at a pace that suits him but seems to be taking it all in his stride.  We are having issues finding a bit that he is comfortable in so have been trying him bitless which he seems much happier with.  Currently happy walking and trotting carrying a rider.  Can nap towards gateways but is generally being a little star.  His previous owner says that he absolutely loves having something to do, whether that’s working in the school or taking a stroll down the lane.

Type of home: Popcorn is looking for a foster home where he will receive one to one attention to bring out the best in him. He is a little jumpy on occasion and would benefit immensely from building a bond with his human. Due to his castration being a bit later in life he can be a bit riggy and bossy in the herd but has settled well within the herd here at the Sanctuary. A companion to one other horse would be ideal.
