Story: We were contacted by our friends at New Hope Animal Rescue in Kent, to enquire as to whether we had space for a 3-year-old gelding named Rocky. Thankfully, we were in a position to help and the little chap arrived at the Sanctuary mid-December 2023.

Personality: Rocky is a very sweet little soul who will always greet you with a whinny when he sees you. He is good within the herd and enjoys playing with the other youngsters in his group.

Experience: We don’t know what previous experiences this little guy has had. He was a little jumpy when he first arrived but has gradually started to settle over time. He can be wary when you are putting his headcollar on but is improving daily. He can be unsure in new situations but eventually settles with each new experience. He is good to lead and good to have his front hooves picked out, we are currently working with him on his back feet – time, understanding and patience are what achieves results with this sweet lad.

Type of home: Rocky is seeking a home where his fosterers are happy to spend the next year or so working with him on the ground, preparing him for the day he carries a rider. We prefer our horses and ponies to wait until they are a bit older before they learn to carry a rider – they still have so much growing to do at this age, both mentally and physically and we like to prevent complications later in life. Rocky sensitive nature means he may need a bit longer than some, he is willing to learn but requires someone with the knowledge and patience to bring him on.

***If you would like to find out more or think you could give this sensitive soul the home he deserves then we ask that you complete a foster application form in the first instance. More information on fostering a pony from us can be found along with a downloadable copy of the foster application at the following link:
