SASSY – COMPANION / RIDDEN PROSPECT

Breed: Shetland Pony
Colour: Bay
Gender: Mare
Height: 10hh
Date of Birth: January 2017
Medical Conditions: None Known
Foster Donation: £170

Story: Sassy came into the Sanctuary in March 2023 along with another mare called Coffee. The two mares were discovered abandoned in a field together. No one came forward to claim them and they were both heavily in foal. Sassy tested positive for strangles and had to be isolated until she tested negative for the infection. She gave birth to her filly foal, Pebbles on the 13th May 2023.

Personality: Sassy by name, Sassy by nature. She is certainly a feisty one and moves beautifully as she struts her stuff around the paddock. She can be a bit dominant with the other horses and ponies in the herd and will not allow herself to be picked on.

Experience: She can be a little tricky to catch when it suits her. She is good to groom and has been used on our open days as part of our Groom-a-Pony experiences. She loads and travels well and is good for the farrier and vet. She has not received any training towards being a ridden or driven pony but we see no reason why she couldn’t turn her hoof to any of these disciplines, in fact we would encourage it.

Type of home: Sassy is seeking a home with Shetland Pony knowledge. She hasn’t any underlying conditions that we are aware of but we would suggest restrictions to grazing and weight monitoring as a matter of course with every Shetland Pony. She is a smart little lady and would love to have that mind stimulated, whether it be in the show ring, pulling a cart or just being taken for a walk up the road.
